Outward Bound South Africa was started as a result of the visionary efforts of Charles P Stetson, an American philanthropist from Connecticut. Since his death, his son, Chuck Stetson, has been very involved in our organisation, particularly with the funding of bursaries for disadvantaged youth to attend Outward Bound programmes.

Evaluation & Assessment Feedback – Alida Coetzee

In 2008 the Outward Bound Trust of South Africa in partnership with Murray & Roberts ,conducted research on 13 courses in order to evaluate the impact the programs have on personal developmental areas and to determine if the impact of courses differs between short courses (5-7days) and long courses (14+ days).

2008 was a successful & exciting year for Outward Bound.


Murray and Roberts
has continued it’s support with major sponsor and various programmes were run for disadvantaged youth from various street shelters in both Gauteng and the Western Cape. This year we are hoping to expand this programme to include the Eastern Cape and possibly the Ellisus district.
