Prize Giving at Origins Coffee Roasting: Saturday 19th September



On Saturday 19th September the winners of the SMS ‘RESPECT’ Campaign and Women’s Empowerment Program were invited to Origins Coffee Roasting to collect their prizes. We would like to say congratulations to all of the winners and a big thank you to those who attended and supported the campaign. Also thank you to Origins Coffee Roasting who were kind enough to host the prize giving where coffees and pastries were provided.

LoveLife Groundbreakers Program: Tuesday 16th June – Sunday 20th June

The LoveLife Groundbreakers program took place on the 16th June in Lapalala Widerness Reserve and ran for four days. It was a youth development program aimed at helping the participants grow and develop as individuals and was sponsored by Murray and Roberts.

Joshuas Faith Based program: Friday 15th May – Thursday 28th May


On the 15th May a development program was run with individuals from Joshuas Faith and was funded by Murray and Roberts. The main objective of this program was to explore faith based education in South Africa as it represents an integral part of peoples’ lives. The course was implemented as a typical Outward Bound course with additional emphasis on the story of the Good Samaritan, working together as a community and looking after one another.

Leandra Schools Program: Thursday 18th June – Wednesday 24th June


On Thursday 18th of June a group of students from the Leandra school arrived at the Witbank base. Some of them are still in school but many have dropped out and have had no alternative option other than to live on the streets.

Othandweni – Tuesday 14th – Monday 20th April 2009



On the 1st June individuals came from a shelter in Hillbrow, Johannesburg to go on a youth development program funded by Murray and Roberts. The program aimed to help the individuals realise their full potential. Some of them were living at the shelter but some of them were living on the streets.

Summary of the De Beers Funded Program: Saturday 4th July – Friday 17th July


On Saturday 4th July the students arrived at the camp base with mixed emotions. Some of them were very excited about the challenges that laid ahead, whereas some were more withdrawn and nervous. However, despite their anticipation and concerns about staying in the bush, the majority of the group were enthusiastic and optimistic.

Women’s Empowerment Program:Saturday 8th August-Friday 14th August

‘I have learnt that we were wrong to think that in this life there are things that we women couldn’t do, we always thought that hard things were for men. Outward Bound helped me a lot because I have an anger management problem which I was able to overcome whilst I was here. I also learnt that in life there are obstructions and distractions that occur when we try and reach our goals. So, when that time comes we should be patient and push ourselves to make sure you get what you want no matter how long it takes. Life is all about taking risks!’
