Do You Have What It Takes to Be an OBSA Instructor?

We are seeking passionate and adventurous individuals to join our training program! This exciting journey begins with a 5-day assessment at our Willow Point base in Sedgefield, Western Cape.

Who Can Apply

If you have a love for the outdoors, a desire to make a positive impact, and meet our prerequisites, this program is for you!
We welcome applications from:

  • Psychology or recreation science graduates
  • Freelance instructors
  • Members of the public eager to grow in this field

Prerequisites

To apply, you must:

  • Be able to swim and be in good physical health
  • Have a valid police clearance certificate

Program Overview

Assessment Phase

Dates: 13–17 January 2025
Location: Willow Point Base, Sedgefield, Western Cape

During this 5-day phase, participants will undergo evaluations to identify those who are ready for our intensive training program.

3-Month Instructor Training School

Start Date: 1 February 2025
This program is designed to prepare you for the challenges and rewards of being an OBSA instructor.

  • Months 1–2: Develop both soft skills (e.g., communication and facilitation) and technical outdoor skills (e.g., safety protocols, activity basics).
  • Month 3: Shadow experienced OBSA instructors, gaining practical experience by co-leading courses.
