Gender-based violence is a critical issue in South Africa, deeply impacting communities and the future of our youth. At Outward Bound South Africa, we believe in addressing this crisis by empowering young people with the skills, knowledge, and resilience to prevent GBV and create a culture of respect, empathy, and tolerance.
Our programme is a transformative, 2-7-day experiential learning intervention designed specifically for youth aged 13-18. We focus on vulnerable young people who are often at higher risk of experiencing or witnessing violence. Our goal is to equip them with tools to recognize, prevent, and address gender-based violence in their own lives and communities.
Through carefully crafted, immersive activities, our participants engage in challenging scenarios that foster self-awareness and promote understanding of healthy, respectful interactions. Core to our programme is the principle, “If you know better, you do better.” We aim to dismantle harmful beliefs and inspire youth to embrace positive, inclusive values that they can carry forward into adulthood.
Programme Highlights:
- Engaging Experiential Learning: Through hands-on activities and outdoor experiences, we cultivate practical skills that empower youth to actively prevent GBV and support gender equality.
- Supportive Environment: Our instructors create a safe, inclusive space for discussions and growth, helping participants explore their beliefs and learn from one another.
- Community Building: Youth develop a sense of shared responsibility, preparing them to be advocates for non-violence and equality in their communities.
Join us in building a future free from gender-based violence. By empowering our youth today, we are investing in a safer, more compassionate tomorrow.
